You must also label your boxes. Use white stickers or a marker pen to label fragile items. Label them as such if necessary to avoid them being placed at the bottom of piles.

You should also consider what you will store in the same box. Don’t store fragile items in the same box as heavy ones, for example. The heavy items may crush the breakable items if the container tips. By keeping everything in a similar “theme”, you will find it easier to unpack.

You should also ensure that the items in the boxes are properly packed and wrapped for the moving company. Fill in any spaces that are empty with bubble wrap or tissue to keep them from moving.

It’s also important to think of how you will protect the contents inside the boxes with additional wrapping. You can wrap them to prevent them from moving, and also any pieces that may otherwise fall off, or protrude, or are more fragile.

Some of the items that you wrap will not be placed in boxes – for example, ornaments that are too big may just be wrapped. You should still protect the sharp edges and protruding pieces with lots of bubble wrap.
